My Short Autobiograpy
Greetings. My name is Andrew Alexis Varvel. I was born on Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, headquarters of the Military Airlift Command – now called Air Mobility Command – where my father played oboe in the Military Airlift Command Band.
I came to North Dakota when I was five months old.
I grew up in North Dakota, mainly in Grand Forks. I lived at Princeton Trailer Court on the north edge of the University of North Dakota for one and a half years, Belcourt for three years, and then three different parts of town in Grand Forks over the next thirteen years. I graduated from Central High School.
I went to the University of Houston on a National Merit Scholarship. After two years, I transferred to the University of North Dakota, where I finished a bachelor of arts in History and a bachelor of science in Geology. I won UND's Merrifield Award for archival research in 1997.
I moved to Bismarck in 1998. Since then, I have been engaged in writing, research, and artwork. I have lived in District 47 since 2014. This house, commissioned by the former owners of the China Garden Restaurant, still has much of its original Chinese artwork.

I make these designs myself
Many candidates in politics subcontract their campaign artwork to professional image makers.
Not me.
My campaign artwork expresses something about me that voters should know.

I hope to work for you here
The North Dakota State Capitol is a work of art.
This building was built in a classic Art Deco style.
This building is an inspiration for my photography.
